Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 4: Following a brief respite from heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, reports have emerged of sinking land and hills in several hilly areas of Jammu province.
Authorities and local residents have raised concerns as the phenomenon poses a risk to life and property in vulnerable regions.
According to reports, multiple areas in the Jammu region have been witnessing ground subsidence since the downpours stopped. In particular, higher reaches of the Akhnoor subdivision have reported signs of sinking land, with visible cracks and slippage in slopes.
Similar incidents have also been reported on social media in the Bani, Billawar, and Basholi areas of Kathua district, where residents have noticed gradual shifts in hill slopes and soil subsidence. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid areas prone to landslides or sinking ground.
Officials have also advised people living in vulnerable zones to report any signs of ground movement to the district administration immediately, while monitoring teams are being deployed to assess risk and implement preventive measures.
The administration continues to monitor the situation closely as the hilly terrain remains highly susceptible to soil erosion and landslides in the wake of heavy rains in the region.
