Jammu, Sept 25: A day after unprecedented violence rocked Leh town, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that the next round of talks with Ladakh’s agitating groups will go ahead as scheduled next month.
On Thursday morning, a meeting was held in Leh between members of the Apex Committee and representatives of the MHA. It was decided that a preparatory meeting would be held in New Delhi on September 27 or 28, with the exact date to be confirmed later. The meeting will be attended by three representatives each from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA). Following this, the High-Powered Committee (HPC) will hold its formal round of talks on October 6 in New Delhi. The HPC will include seven members each from LAB and KDA and deliberate on a four-point agenda.
The Union Home Ministry had earlier invited Ladakhi leaders to resume the stalled dialogue on September 21, just days after veteran leader Thupstan Chhewang announced that he would lead the Leh Apex Body. The upcoming HPC meeting is scheduled for October 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi.
The last HPC meeting with Ladakh’s agitating groups was held on May 27 in New Delhi, during which issues related to reservations and domicile were resolved. Since then, the groups have repeatedly pressed for dialogue to address remaining demands.
The renewed engagement comes amid heightened tensions in Leh, where Wednesday’s violent protests underscored the urgency of addressing Ladakh’s unresolved political and constitutional concerns.
