Honouring Sardar’s Legacy
12/1/2025 10:47:57 PM
The nation is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to honor his role in India’s freedom struggle and national integration. Leaders are reminding the nation about the importance of freedom and the efforts that need to be put for making Bharat Viksit.
Recently Lieutenant Governor Manoj joined the “Sardar@150 Unity March (Padyatra)” at Vadodara, Gujarat. The 11-day long National Padyatra aims at sending a message that Sardar Patel played a decisive role in Bharat’s integration.
LG Sinha while highlighting the role of Sardar Patel said that the history of J&K would have been different if Sardar Patel had been given full responsibility for its integration in 1947.
History stands testimony to the fact that despite not directly handling Jammu Kashmir, Sardar Patel ensured that it remained an integral part of India. From the very beginning, Sardar Patel had said that India will not give even an inch of Jammu Kashmir to Pakistan.
Sardar Patel had opposed the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s policy towards the region. He was also against taking the issue to the United Nations.
Sardar Patel’s vision of unity, ideals and values of equality and social justice continue to shape India’s growth. He is considered to be an architect of modern India. Sardar Patel symbolises India’s self-confidence, self-respect and its bravery. His embodying values of integrity, decisiveness, selfless service continue to inspire one and all to build a strong, self-reliant and developed India.
Sardar Patel believed in resolving challenges through firmness, clarity of purpose and a deep understanding of India’s strategic interests. His foresight continues to find resonance even today as the nation works tirelessly to secure peace and stability in the region.
The values Sardar Patel embodied—integrity, decisiveness, and selfless service—are more relevant today than ever before. As India aspires to become a global leader, the spirit of national unity must guide every citizen and institution. Divisiveness, complacency or regionalism cannot define our future. Instead, a shared sense of responsibility and a commitment to strengthening India’s unity must drive the nation’s journey.
Honouring Sardar Patel’s legacy is not merely an annual ritual. It is a call to action—to build a strong, self-reliant and developed India. As the nation celebrates this landmark anniversary year, it is time to reaffirm the ideals he stood for and to ensure that his dream of a united, prosperous and resilient Bharat becomes a lasting reality.
