Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 20: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS, on Friday launched an online Tenant Verification web portal titled “KIRAYEDAR” for the general public, aimed at strengthening internal security and ensuring effective tenant monitoring in the district. Given past incidents of anti-social activities by Anti-National Elements (ANEs), Jammu and Kashmir Police has been emphasizing the need for robust tenant verification to maintain peace and public safety. Jammu, being the winter capital of the Union Territory, witnesses a continuous influx of people from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly during the Secretariat’s winter move. A large number of these individuals reside in rented accommodations. In addition, several major infrastructure projects underway in and around Jammu have led to an increased presence of labourers, contractors and technical staff living in rented premises. Police authorities apprehend that ANEs may exploit this influx by obtaining accommodation under false identities. Tenant verification has already been made mandatory, and the Deputy Commissioner has issued orders for compulsory reporting and verification of tenants by landlords through the police. However, difficulties such as old age of landlords, their absence from the station, busy schedules, job constraints and general reluctance to visit police stations were hampering compliance. In this regard, Jammu Police registered 12 FIRs against defaulting landlords and conducted over 10,000 tenant verifications. To overcome these challenges, Jammu Police developed the online KIRAYEDAR portal, enabling landlords to submit tenant details digitally without visiting police stations. The portal has been developed through the collaborative efforts of three students from IIT Jammu and a local youth from Kathua district, under the guidance of SDPO City West Jammu. The portal is user-friendly, accessible anytime and from anywhere, and serves as an effective communication bridge between landlords and the police. Jammu Police expects a significant increase in tenant reporting and verification through this initiative, further enhancing internal security and ensuring a safe and secure environment for citizens. Landlords can access the portal by typing tenant.jkpverify.in in the Google search bar. After OTP-based mobile verification, users can upload tenant details, Aadhaar information, photographs and select the concerned police station. Upon submission, an SMS confirmation along with an application ID is generated. Through this initiative, Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to public safety and proactive policing in the Union Territory. |
