UT Task Force meeting on Anaemia Mukt Bharat held at NHM, J&K

JAMMU, Dec 27: A meeting of the Union Territory Task Force for effective implementation of the Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Programme was held today at the National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu & Kashmir, under the chairmanship of Shri Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary (IAS), Mission Director, NHM J&K.
The meeting was attended by members of the UT Task Force constituted vide Government Order No. 1908-JK (GAD) of 2025, with participation in both physical and virtual modes. The Task Force reviewed the current status of anaemia in Jammu & Kashmir and discussed a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy to address the high prevalence of anaemia among children, adolescents, women and pregnant mothers.
It was highlighted that, as per NFHS-5, anaemia remains a major public health concern in the Union Territory, particularly among children and women of reproductive age. The Chair emphasized the need for strong inter-departmental convergence and coordinated action to achieve the objectives of the Anaemia Mukt Bharat programme.
Detailed deliberations were held on the roles and responsibilities of various departments including Health, ICDS, Education, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Institutions. Key focus areas included:
Strengthening screening, treatment and Iron Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation
Improving nutrition and coverage of fortified food through ICDS and PDS
Effective implementation of Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) and deworming programmes in schools. Enhancing awareness through IEC/BCC activities, strengthening monitoring mechanisms through digital platforms such as POSHAN Tracker and HIMS Dashboard, Ensuring 100 percent hemoglobin testing of all target groups with proper tracking, treatment, referral, follow-up and timely data updation on respective portals,
Directing NIPI to ensure age-specific district-wise anaemia prevalence data and regular updation of ODK as per tracking, treatment and follow-up protocols.
