Jammu, Jan 10: After completing the appointment of district presidents across all 21 organisational districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress leadership is preparing for a major organisational reshuffle aimed at removing non-performing and inactive leaders and injecting fresh energy into the party ranks.
During the recently concluded exercise, the party leadership gave clear preference to younger leaders while finalising district presidents, signalling a shift towards generational change and organisational renewal.
Sources said this is only the first step of a broader overhaul planned to revive the party after its worst-ever performance in the 2024 Assembly elections, in which the Congress managed to win only six seats — its lowest tally in the political history of the erstwhile state.

econnecting the party with grassroots workers and the wider electorate.
“Fresh faces will be appointed to key organisational positions, and several functionaries who failed to deliver will be shown the door,” sources said, adding that strengthening the organisational framework is among the top priorities, as weak coordination and poor communication at the booth and block levels were identified as major reasons behind the party’s historic debacle.
Sources further said that the party plans to intensify public outreach programmes to better understand people’s grievances and address local issues more effectively.
The leadership believes that sustained engagement with citizens, especially youth and first-time voters, is essential to rebuild the party’s support base in both Jammu and Kashmir regions.
The proposed overhaul is being viewed within party circles as a crucial step towards restoring Congress’ relevance in Jammu and Kashmir politics. With an eye on upcoming electoral battles, the party leadership is keen to project a rejuvenated image and position itself as a credible alternative.
