| Sadhotra hails J&K Budget as balanced, forward-looking, people-centric | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 6: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today hailed the Budget 2026-27 for Jammu and Kashmir, presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Legislative Assembly, describing it as a balanced, forward-looking and growth-oriented financial blueprint that reflects the government's firm commitment to fulfil promises made in the National Conference election manifesto. In a statement issued here, Sadhotra said the budget demonstrates a clear vision for inclusive development, ensuring that the benefits of governance reach every section of society, every region and all sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir. "The Budget 2026-27 has been crafted with sensitivity, responsibility and foresight. It takes care of the aspirations of farmers, youth, women, employees, traders, daily wagers and the marginalized sections, while maintaining a fine balance between fiscal discipline and welfare," he said. Sadhotra said that special attention has been paid to addressing long-pending socio-economic concerns, particularly of daily wagers, casual labourers and need-based workers, whose issues have remained unresolved for years. The budget acknowledges their contribution and offers tangible relief, sending a positive and reassuring message to thousands of affected families, he added. Sadhotra also welcomed the provision related to gas cylinders, saying that the initiative would provide substantial relief to economically weaker households at a time when inflation has impacted domestic budgets. Such measures directly benefit the common man and underline the government's pro-people approach, he said. Highlighting the regional balance in allocations, Sadhotra said the budget ensures equitable development of Jammu, Kashmir and their sub-regions, moving away from ad-hocism and addressing historical imbalances. This budget belongs to the entire Jammu and Kashmir and not to any one region or class, he added . He said that increased focus on infrastructure development, including roads, power, water supply and urban amenities, would strengthen the foundation for long- term economic growth and improve the quality of life of citizens. Infrastructure is the backbone of development, and this budget rightly prioritises it, he said. The National Conference Additional General Secretary also appreciated the emphasis on employment generation, youth empowerment and skill development, stating that targeted investments in education, entrepreneurship and start-ups would help harness the potential of Jammu and Kashmir's young population. Sadhotra said the budget's thrust on agriculture, horticulture, tourism and MSMEs would give a major boost to the local economy, create jobs and enhance incomes in rural and semi-urban areas. By strengthening traditional sectors while promoting new avenues of growth, the government has adopted a holistic approach to economic revival, he added. Welcoming enhanced allocations for healthcare and education, Sadhotra said these sectors are critical for sustainable development. Investment in human capital is the most valuable investment, and this budget clearly recognises that he said. Terming the budget as a reflection of good governance and accountability, Sadhotra said it reinforces public faith in democratic institutions and responsive administration. He expressed confidence that effective implementation of budgetary proposals would accelerate Jammu and Kashmir's journey towards peace, prosperity and stability. "The Budget 2026-27 is not just a statement of numbers, but a roadmap for a better, more equitable future of Jammu and Kashmir," Sadhotra added. |
