Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reaffirmed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India remains firmly committed to building a developed, peaceful, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation chaired a high-level review meeting in Jammu to assess the progress of development projects across the Union Territory.
The meeting focused on key sectors including road infrastructure, power, industry, tourism, and digital connectivity through 4G and optical fibre networks. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Central and Jammu and Kashmir governments were present.
Amit Shah said that sustained and focused efforts by the Modi government have led to unprecedented progress in development projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
He stressed the need to harness the full potential of the region’s hydropower resources and called for special emphasis on achieving 100 per cent saturation of government welfare schemes, ensuring that benefits reach every eligible citizen.
Highlighting the growing tourism momentum, the Home Minister said the enthusiasm of tourists from across the country to visit Jammu and Kashmir remains strong.
He underlined the need for aggressive promotion of the Union Territory’s tourist destinations in other states to unlock its vast tourism potential. Shah assured that the Government of India would extend all possible support for the development of new tourist destinations.
The Home Minister also emphasized strengthening sports infrastructure and establishing sports academies to positively engage the youth with development. In this regard, he said efforts would be made to mobilize investments of around ₹200 crore in collaboration with various sports bodies. He further called for promoting the dairy sector in Jammu and Kashmir with the support of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir has been brought under the ambit of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme for the first time in the financial year 2025–26.
This will enable the Union Territory to access 50-year interest-free loans for capital projects. Amit Shah underlined that improved fiscal discipline would help stabilise the Union Territory’s fiscal deficit in the long run.
The Home Minister said that India is steadily moving towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, marking 100 years of independence, and reiterated that the Government of India will continue to provide wholehearted support to Jammu and Kashmir in achieving this vision.
