Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 21: BJP Spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan has termed the latest tourism figures placed before the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly as stronh evidence of restored peace and a stable environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the statement made by Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Omar Abdullah in the House, Balbir said that the unprecedented surge in tourist arrivals reflects growing national and international confidence in the Union Territory.
According to the data shared in the Assembly, over 7.85 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir between 2023 and 2025, compared to 4.76 crore during 2016–2018. Describing this increase as historic, Balbir Ram Rattan said the figures are not merely statistical achievements but indicators of a transformed ground reality.
“Tourism thrives only in an atmosphere of safety and stability. The remarkable rise in footfall clearly shows that a sense of security now prevails across Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated. He added that after 2019, sustained efforts were made to strengthen governance, improve security mechanisms, and ensure inclusive development, all of which have contributed to restoring normalcy.
Balbir Ram Rattan emphasized that the tourism revival has had a direct and positive impact on the local economy. Thousands of families associated with hotels, guest houses, houseboats, transport services, handicrafts, and small businesses have witnessed renewed opportunities. The surge will also encouraged fresh investments in hospitality infrastructure and allied sectors, creating employment avenues for youth.
He further noted that the growing number of visitors signifies a renewed trust in the region’s peaceful environment. Pilgrimage tourism, adventure activities, winter sports are attracting diverse groups of travelers, strengthening social and economic integration.
Balbir said that the data presented on the floor of the House is proof that Jammu and Kashmir is steadily moving forward on the path of development and prosperity. He maintained that improved connectivity, upgraded infrastructure, and better public amenities have further enhanced the visitor experience.
