Jammu, Feb 21: Jammu Police South Zone have taken cognizance of a viral video circulating on social media regarding an incident involving a police officer in uniform.
On 20.02.2026, a written complaint was lodged by SI Rajesh Kumar, posted at DPL Jammu, stating that while on official duty and present at Trikuta Nagar Park for meal/medical purposes, a youth approached him and started using abusive and unparliamentary language. The individual further issued threats and physically assaulted the officer despite being aware that he was a serving police officer in uniform performing his lawful duties.
Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, FIR No. 52/2026 under Sections 132/126(2)/352/351(2) BNS was registered at Bahu Fort Police Station and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, the accused was identified through technical and human intelligence inputs and was subsequently apprehended. The accused has been identified as Sumit Verma S/O Rattan Chand R/O Maanpur, Kathua, A/P Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Jammu Police reiterates that any attempt to obstruct, intimidate, or assault public servants while discharging their lawful duties will be dealt with firmly and strictly under the law. Such acts not only undermine the authority of law enforcement but also disturb public order and discipline.
The investigation is continuing to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident, and further legal action shall follow as warranted. |
