Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 23: On Monday morning, Police Station Gangyal received telephonic information regarding a serious and brutal knife attack at Rajiv Gandhi Park (Garden), Gangyal, Jammu, wherein an unidentified male youth had allegedly assaulted a woman with a sharp-edged weapon. Upon verification, the injured woman was identified as Rafia Bano, wife of Arif Jamal, resident of Ward No. 57, House No. 03, Gangyal, Jammu. The accused reportedly inflicted multiple grievous stab injuries, including critical wounds to the neck and other vital parts of the body, clearly indicating grave criminal intent. Acting with utmost promptness and professionalism, the SP City South Jammu immediately deputed multiple police teams from PS Gangyal and PS Satwari to the scene to apprehend the accused. Taking the matter with due seriousness, the SDPO South Jammu personally visited the spot to supervise on-ground proceedings. One police team secured and preserved the scene of crime, while another shifted the critically injured woman to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Gangyal. In view of the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to GMC Jammu for advanced medical care. As per the latest medical report, the injured woman is presently stable and undergoing treatment under close medical supervision. All actions were carried out under the close supervision and monitoring of the SSP Jammu. Considering the gravity of the offence, an additional police team was deployed, which successfully recovered the weapon of offence (knife) used in the attack. Simultaneously, a joint search operation comprising teams from PS Gangyal and PS Satwari was launched to trace and apprehend the accused. During the course of investigation, the accused was identified as Amarjeet Singh @ Kaka, son of Prem Singh, resident of Model Town, Gangyal, Jammu. It was further revealed that during the operation, the accused attempted to inflict injuries upon himself using a blunt knife, apparently in an effort to mislead the investigation. However, timely intervention by police personnel from Police Stations Gangyal and Satwari prevented any fatal consequences. The accused was subsequently shifted to GMC Jammu for medical treatment and remains under police custody. In this connection, FIR No. 25/2026 has been promptly registered at PS Gangyal under Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act and Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an Investigation Officer has been duly deputed. The motive behind the crime and all other relevant aspects, including the sequence of events, are being thoroughly examined. Medical, forensic, and circumstantial evidence is being collected to ensure a comprehensive, fair, and legally sound investigation.
