SRINAGAR, Apr 3: Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 36 hours as a strong Western Disturbance approaches the region, officials said on Friday. According to the Meteorological Department Srinagar, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher reaches is expected across many parts of the union Territory from April 3 to 4.
Thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are also likely during this period.
The MeT office has warned that a few places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions may experience brief but intense heavy showers, raising the possibility of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Higher altitude regions and key mountain passes—including Zojila, Sinthan Top, Mughal Road, Sadhna Top, and Razdan Top—are likely to receive fresh snowfall, potentially impacting traffic movement. There is also a slight possibility of light snowfall in middle elevations between 2100 and 2400 metres.
The weather is expected to improve slightly on April 5 and 6, with partly cloudy skies and chances of light rain at isolated places. However, another spell of light to moderate rain and snow in higher reaches is forecast between April 7 and 9, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
A brief spell of light precipitation may occur at isolated locations on April 10 and 11, while generally dry weather is expected from April 12 to 15.
