| J&K link probed in Haryana spy network bust, NIA intensifies crackdown | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 5: Even as higher authorities have maintained a guarded silence, intelligence agencies have intensified efforts to probe possible links between terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir and a suspected Pakistani espionage network recently busted in Palwal and Nuh districts. The National Investigation Agency has stepped up its crackdown on the alleged espionage network operating in the Mewat region, carrying out extensive search operations at multiple locations in Palwal and Nuh for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. NIA teams conducted coordinated raids at the residences of suspects in the Baheen police station area of Palwal and the Punhana region of Nuh, with operations continuing throughout the day. Acting on inputs from central intelligence agencies, around eight youths from the two districts have been taken into custody for questioning. For the past three days, joint teams comprising central intelligence agencies, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Special Task Force (STF) have been engaged in sustained interrogation of the suspects. According to police sources, three youths from Pawsar village under the Baheen police station limits have been detained, two of them brothers. The third is believed to be a close associate of the suspected Pakistani operative and is reported to have facilitated his movement from Jammu and Kashmir into the Mewat region. Five more suspects from Nuh district are also being questioned based on leads obtained from a youth earlier arrested in Jammu and Kashmir. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspected operative concealed his identity by posing as a resident of Srinagar, using the cover to befriend local youths. Agencies are now working to map the network, including identifying individuals he interacted with and locations he visited during his stay. Investigators suspect that the operative remained active for a considerable period in the Baheen and Tauru areas, initially staying in Pawsar village before shifting base to Tauru in Nuh district. Probe agencies have also found that some of the youths may have come into contact with suspected Pakistan-linked individuals in Jammu and Kashmir as early as 2017. Digital evidence and past communication records are now being analysed to trace these connections. Given the sensitivity of the case, the administration has been put on high alert. While no official statement has been issued so far, sources indicate that the investigation may lead to significant revelations in the coming days. |
