Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 6: Sub-Judge Jammu Jeewan Sharma has extended the judicial remand of the accused in the alleged attack on National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah till April 20, even as the investigation in the case is stated to be still incomplete.
According to the judicial remand order shared by you, the accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal son of late Ajit Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi, Jammu, was produced in connection with FIR No. 29/2026 registered at Police Station Gangyal under Section 109 BNS and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act. The order was passed by Jeewan Kumar Sharma, Sub Judge (Judicial Magistrate First Class), Jammu, on April 6, 2026.
The order records that the application for judicial remand was presented by Shariq Majeed, Inspector and member of the SIT. The accused, presently lodged in District Jail Amphalla, Jammu, was produced through virtual mode. After perusing the case diary, the court observed that the investigation was not yet complete and that the accused had not been admitted to bail. The court accordingly remanded him to judicial custody till April 20, 2026, with directions to lodge him in District Jail, Jammu, and produce him before the competent Magistrate on or before the next date.
The case pertains to the alleged firing incident targeting Dr Farooq Abdullah on March 11, when he narrowly escaped after a gunman opened fire while he was leaving a wedding function in Greater Kailash area of Jammu. The accused, identified in reports as 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal of Purani Mandi, was overpowered on the spot and arrested with a revolver. No one was injured in the incident.
Earlier, the accused was first sent to five-day police custody on March 12, and the remand was later extended by seven more days before he was shifted to judicial custody till April 6. Police had also constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the incident and examine the motive behind the attack.
The fresh remand order now keeps the accused in judicial custody till April 20 as the probe continues. (JNF)
