Fire Service Week, observed from 14th to 20th April, is a timely reminder of the critical importance of fire prevention, risk reduction, and institutional preparedness in safeguarding our communities. On this occasion, we honour the memory of those valiant firefighters who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and devotion to public service stand as a testament to the highest traditions of duty and sacrifice. The Home Department recognizes the pivotal role of Fire & Emergency Services, J&K, as a key pillar of the Union Territory's emergency response framework. Beyond firefighting, the department has evolved into a multi-dimensional force, effectively handling rescue operations, disaster response, and emergency management. Their professionalism, quick response, and increasing integration with other emergency services significantly strengthen our overall disaster preparedness architecture. This year's theme, "Safe School, Safe Hospital & Fire Safety Aware Society - Together for Fire Prevention," rightly emphasizes the need to prioritize safety audits, compliance, and preparedness in critical public institutions. It also calls for greater coordination among departments and active community participation. I urge all stakeholders, including government institutions, private establishments, and the general public, to adhere to prescribed fire safety norms and actively support awareness and preparedness initiatives. Prevention and preparedness must remain at the core of our collective efforts. Let us reaffirm our commitment to building a culture of safety, vigilance, and resilience across Jammu & Kashmir.
