| BGSB University organizes Academic, Awareness Programmes to Mark Ambedkar Jayanti, Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 15: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University organized a series of awareness programmes under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, reaffirming its commitment towards building a drug-free society. The NCC Unit of BGSBU conducted an orientation programme followed by a pledge ceremony as part of the 100-day anti-drug campaign launched by Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. The initiative aims to strengthen awareness and preventive efforts against substance abuse across Jammu & Kashmir. Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, graced the occasion and appreciated the NCC unit for its proactive efforts in sensitizing youth. In his address, he emphasized the vital role of students and NCC cadets as ambassadors of change, urging them to actively contribute towards spreading awareness in society. Shri Abhishek Sharma (IAS), Registrar, BGSBU, also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the growing menace of drug addiction. The programme focused on educating students about the harmful effects of substance abuse, its social and health consequences, and the need for preventive action. Dr. M. A. Hannan Khan, Care Taker Officer, Dr. Mamta Bhatt, Co-CTO, and Dr. Shreekar Pant, Director (I/C), Center for Biodiversity Studies addressed the gathering and underscored the importance of awareness, prevention and youth participation. A pledge ceremony was also organised, where participants took an oath to remain committed to a drug-free lifestyle and to actively support the mission of a drug-free society. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, NCC cadets, research scholars, faculty members, and staff, reflecting a strong collective resolve. In a separate academic initiative, the Department of Political Science & International Relations (PSIR), under the supervision of Dr. Mariya Aslam, organized a quiz competition on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the School of Social Sciences and focussed on Ambedkar's life, ideas and contemporary relevance. The event aimed to promote critical engagement with Ambedkar's intellectual legacy and to encourage reflection on issues of social justice, equality, and constitutional values. The programme was hosted by Dr. Ikhlaq Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science & International Relations (PSIR), who delivered the welcome address. The programme was attended by faculty members from various departments, adding to its academic significance. The programmes concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the University's commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility. |
