Early Times Report
KATRA, May 2: An awareness lecture was successfully organized at Government Degree College Kakryal Katra in collaboration with the National Service Scheme unit and the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Committee. The programme aimed to sensitize students and staff about important social and institutional issues, particularly focusing on creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment within the campus. The programme was organised under the able guidance of the worthy principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The resource person for the session, Dr. Usha Sharma, HOD Sociology, delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the significance of awareness, legal provisions, and preventive measures related to harassment and discrimination. Emphasis was laid on understanding individual rights, responsibilities, and the role of institutional mechanisms like the POSH Committee in ensuring justice and support. During the session, special awareness was also provided regarding the SHE-Box (Sexual Harassment Electronic Box), an online complaint management system launched by the Government of India. Students were informed about how to access and use the platform to register complaints related to workplace sexual harassment, ensuring a transparent and accessible grievance redressal mechanism. Students were encouraged to openly discuss their concerns and were informed about the procedures for reporting grievances both within the institution and through online platforms like SHE-Box. The speaker also stressed the importance of mutual respect, gender sensitivity, and ethical behavior in academic spaces. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contribution of all participants, organizers, and the resource person for making the event informative and impactful.
Such initiatives reflect the commitment of GDC Kakryal towards fostering a safe and empowering educational environment for all.
