Jammu, May 5: The Indian National Congress in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a reshuffle in its organisational structure following the conclusion of Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory, party sources indicated. The move comes amid a sustained campaign by dissident leaders against the incumbent Pradesh Congress Committee headed by Tariq Hamid Karra. According to sources, the party high command had earlier planned a reorganisation to address internal dissent but deferred the decision in view of the ongoing electoral engagements across multiple states. “With the elections now over, the leadership is expected to revisit the issue and initiate changes in the present committee,” sources said, adding that efforts are underway to accommodate dissenting voices and bridge gaps among factions within the party. The proposed reshuffle is aimed at restoring unity and strengthening the party’s organisational base in the Union Territory, where internal differences have surfaced in recent months. Significantly, the Congress high command has already begun outreach to dissident leaders by assigning them key organisational responsibilities at the national level. Senior leader Vikar Rasool Wani was recently appointed as an All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer for the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Delhi, while another dissident leader, Karan Bhagat, was elevated on April 23 as National Coordinator of the Scheduled Caste wing of the party. Party insiders believe these appointments are part of a broader strategy to balance internal equations while preparing the ground for structural changes in the Jammu and Kashmir unit. While no official announcement has been made yet, indications suggest that the reshuffle could be undertaken in the coming weeks as the party leadership seeks to consolidate its position and resolve factional differences. |
