Chandigarh, May 17: The wife of a serving soldier got a new lease of life after Army’s Western Command hospital in Chandimandir, in collaboration with PGIMS hospital in Rohtak, successfully facilitated the retrieval and rapid air transportation of a kidney from a brain-dead road accident victim. In a remarkable humanitarian effort, the Command Hospital Chandimandir in Panchkula, under the aegis of Army’s Western Command, in collaboration with PGIMS Rohtak, facilitated the retrieval and rapid air transportation on May 16. An Army Aviation helicopter executed the critical life-saving mission from Chandimandir to Rohtak and back with precision and within stringent timelines, the Western Command said. The harvested organ was swiftly airlifted along with the medical team of Command Hospital, Western Command for an urgent transplant procedure at Chandimandir. The successful transplant provided a new lease of life to the wife of a serving soldier, reflecting the operational efficiency, seamless civil-military coordination and humanitarian commitment of the Indian Army. Command Hospital, Chandimandir under Army’s Western Command, had earlier been awarded the prestigious Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Unit Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of its exemplary professionalism, steadfast dedication and sustained excellence in military healthcare delivery. Key milestones include the operationalisation of the Bone Marrow Transplant Programme, establishment of a state-of-the-art Haematology Ward, recognition as a best emerging National Organ Transplant and Retrieval Centre by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in August 2024, and accreditation as a Kidney Transplant Centre. |
