Campaign Breaking Silence
5/19/2026 10:41:03 PM
While addressing a rally organized in connection with Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan in South Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called on the people to unite to strike the final blow against drug abuse. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to dismantle the narco-terror network and save the young generation from addiction.
The ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan has witnessed massive public participation with young people and their parents coming forward in large numbers to participate in the campaign. Over the last 39 days, across different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, neighbours have become each other’s support and most importantly long-standing silence that hung over Union Territory has begun to break.
Drug abuse is not merely a social evil; it is a silent destroyer of families, communities and the future of youth. What makes the crisis even more alarming in Jammu and Kashmir is its linkage with narco-terrorism. Drug trafficking has become a tool to destabilise society by targeting young minds, weakening families, and fuelling illegal networks that threaten peace and stability. By likening drug smugglers to terrorists, the Lieutenant Governor rightly underlined the dangerous dimensions of this menace.
For years, drug addiction remained shrouded in stigma and denial. Families often hesitated to seek help due to fear of social judgment, while neighbours remained silent despite witnessing the signs of addiction around them. This silence allowed the problem to grow unchecked. The campaign has succeeded in breaking that silence. Communities are beginning to support one another, and neighbours are emerging as protectors rather than passive observers. This shift in social behaviour is perhaps the campaign’s most important achievement.
The government’s commitment is evident, but lasting success will depend on people’s ownership of the movement. A drug-free Jammu and Kashmir cannot be built by the administration alone; it requires active participation from religious leaders, teachers, parents, civil society and youth themselves.
The Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan has ignited hope. It has shown that when society unites, even the deepest-rooted challenges can be overcome. The momentum must continue until every young life is safeguarded from addiction and the narco-terror network is dismantled completely. This is not just a campaign—it is a mission to reclaim the future of Jammu and Kashmir.
