Early Times Report

UKHRUL, June 1: Mukesh Singh, IPS, on Monday formally assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, at the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Mantripukhri.
The new DGP was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by personnel of the Manipur Police. Senior officers of the Manipur Police attended the occasion.
Following the reception, Singh held a brief introductory meeting with senior police officers, during which he outlined key policing priorities for the force. He underscored the importance of maintaining professionalism, upholding the Constitution of India and the Rule of Law, and ensuring effective coordination with sister agencies, Manipur Police said.
Mukesh Singh is a 1996-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre and most recently served as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Ladakh. He has been appointed to Manipur on a three-year inter-cadre deputation approved by the Centre in public interest.
The DGP stressed the need for impartiality and neutrality in the discharge of policing duties, emphasizing that public service must be carried out without bias and in accordance with established legal and constitutional principles.
Mukesh Singh succeeds Rajiv Singh, who has been appointed Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Rajiv Singh, a Tripura cadre IPS officer, assumed charge as Manipur DGP on May 29, 2023.
Chief minister Y. Khemchand Singh on Sunday took to X and wished success to the new Manipur DGP. “I extend my best wishes to him as he takes on this important responsibility. With his vast experience and distinguished service record, I am confident that he will provide strong leadership in maintaining peace, law and order, and public safety across the state. Wishing him a successful tenure ahead.”
