UDHAMPUR, June 1: SSP Udhampur Amritpal Singh, IPS, inaugurated a three-day Volleyball Tournament at Shaheed Inspector Kamal Singh (SIKS) Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Udhampur under the 100 Days "Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan" launched by the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir. The tournament has been organized by Range Police Headquarters Udhampur with the objective of spreading awareness among youth and society regarding the harmful effects of narcotic drugs and contraband substances on human health, social wellbeing and overall development.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Amritpal Singh, IPS, SSP Udhampur, in the presence of Parhlad Singh, DySP Headquarters Udhampur, Raj Kumar Kaul, SO to DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Jatinder Sambyal, DySP DAR DPL Udhampur, besides other supervisory officers, Rajesh Kumar, Director Ayan Humanity Foundation (NGO) along with his team, sportspersons and distinguished guests.
The event is being organized by Range Police Headquarters Udhampur in collaboration with Ayan Humanity Foundation and coordination with the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Udhampur and various Volleyball Clubs of the district.
A total of 08 Volleyball teams from different parts of District Udhampur are participating in the tournament namely Udhampur Volleyball Club, Narsingh Volleyball Club Ramnagar, Tikri Volleyball Club, City Volleyball Club, Fusion Volleyball Club, Veer Volleyball Club, Roundomail Volleyball Club and Jaganoo Volleyball Club.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth and sportspersons, reflecting the growing commitment of the community towards sports and healthy living.
As per the scheduled programme, two matches were played on the opening day of the tournament, while the remaining league and knockout fixtures shall be played over the next two days, culminating in the final match and prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of sports as an effective tool for channelizing the energy of youth towards constructive and productive activities.
The initiative forms part of the sustained efforts of J&K Police to create awareness regarding the ill effects of narcotic substances and to strengthen community participation in the fight against drug abuse. Through such sporting events, the Police aim to engage youth positively, foster discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship, and reinforce the message of a healthy, vibrant and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
