India’s diversity unparalleled
6/4/2026 10:32:44 PM
Conferences such as the ‘Rishiwar’ Inter-Faith Conference serve as valuable platforms for reflection and dialogue. They remind society that peace and progress are built not through uniformity, but through respect for diversity. Such gatherings encourage people to focus on shared human values rather than differences and help create an environment of trust and cooperation.
While addressing the ‘Rishiwar’ Inter-Faith Conference 2026, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke about the idea of honouring all faiths equally has been woven into fabric of India’s philosophy for millennia.
He spoke about many nations struggling with challenge of coexistence, diversity has been our natural rhythm of life. While many societies have devised measures to safeguard unity, India embraced ethos and value of coexistence and practiced seamlessly for thousands of years.
India’s diversity is unparalleled. It is home to virtually every major religion in the world, along with countless languages, cultures, customs, and traditions. Yet, despite these differences, the nation has largely succeeded in fostering a shared sense of belonging. Diversity has never been viewed as a challenge to be managed; rather, it has been celebrated as a source of strength.
As the Lieutenant Governor rightly observed, while many societies have had to devise special measures to preserve unity, India’s natural rhythm of life has always revolved around coexistence.
This remarkable tradition has enabled communities of different faiths to live side by side, enriching each other’s cultures and contributing collectively to the nation’s progress. From festivals celebrated across religious lines to places of worship that attract people from diverse backgrounds, examples of interfaith harmony can be found throughout the country. Such interactions have nurtured a spirit of inclusiveness that remains central to India’s identity.
India’s strength lies in its ability to accommodate multiple identities while nurturing a common national spirit. The message delivered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is both timely and significant. As the world searches for models of peaceful coexistence, India’s age-old tradition of honouring all faiths equally continues to illuminate a path towards unity, harmony, and collective progress.
In an era marked by rapid technological change and the growing influence of social media, misinformation and divisive narratives can spread quickly. There is a pressing need to strengthen interfaith dialogue, encourage meaningful engagement among communities, and promote values of empathy and mutual respect. Educational institutions, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and policymakers all have an important role in reinforcing the ideals that have sustained India’s social fabric for centuries.
