Governor Kavinder Gupta calls for making voluntary service a way of life

Early Times Report
SHIMLA, June 10: The Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Kavinder Gupta, who also serves as President of the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society, today inaugurated a Blood Donation Camp and Free Dental Health Check-up Camp organized by the State Red Cross Society in Shimla. Addressing blood donors, volunteers, medical professionals and citizens present on the occasion, the Governor described voluntary blood donation as one of the noblest acts of public service, emphasizing that blood is a priceless gift that cannot be manufactured in any laboratory. He said that every unit of blood donated has the potential to save multiple lives and provide hope to patients facing medical emergencies.
"Blood can only be given by one human being to another. Every donation made today may save the life of a mother, a child, an accident victim or a soldier serving the nation. There can be no greater example of humanity and responsible citizenship," he remarked.
The Governor said that the inauguration of the camp was not merely the beginning of a blood donation drive but a reaffirmation of society's collective commitment towards compassion, service and social responsibility. He noted that the principles of humanity, impartiality and voluntary service, on which the Red Cross movement is founded, remain as relevant today as ever and should guide efforts to build a caring and inclusive society.
Calling upon the youth of Himachal Pradesh to actively participate in welfare initiatives, Gupta urged them to transform their concern for society into meaningful action. He stressed that voluntary service must become a way of life rather than a seasonal gesture and encouraged citizens to contribute regularly towards humanitarian causes.
The Governor also inspected the Mobile Dental Clinic Van deployed by the Red Cross Society and appreciated the initiative aimed at extending healthcare services to remote and underserved regions of the State. He observed that mobile healthcare outreach is essential in a hilly State like Himachal Pradesh, where geographical challenges often limit access to quality medical facilities.
Kavinder Gupta directed the Red Cross Society to organize similar blood donation and health awareness camps across all districts, particularly in remote areas where blood availability remains a challenge. He also emphasized the need to promote awareness among students so that future generations view blood donation as a natural social responsibility.
Among those present were Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Dr. Kimi Sood, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, IGMC, Dr. Vinay Bhardwaj, members of the Red Cross Society, blood donors and other dignitaries.
