Jammu, June 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday directed security agencies to establish a multi-layered and impregnable security grid for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and ordered extensive deployment of modern surveillance technologies, including drones, CCTV networks and advanced monitoring systems, to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi to assess preparations for the annual pilgrimage, Shah emphasized that all security agencies must work in close coordination to provide the highest level of security to devotees while ensuring smooth conduct of the Yatra.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra this year will be held from July 3 to August 28, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Union Home Secretary, the Chief of Army Staff, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, senior officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is fully committed to ensuring both robust security and a hassle-free pilgrimage experience for devotees undertaking the annual Yatra.
The Home Minister directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CAPFs and other security agencies to establish a comprehensive security architecture along the pilgrimage routes. He stressed that the conventional security framework should be strengthened through the extensive use of modern technologies, including drones, CCTV surveillance systems and advanced monitoring tools, to enhance real-time situational awareness and threat detection.

icers of various CAPFs and the Jammu and Kashmir Police remain stationed at key camp sites throughout the Yatra to continuously monitor security arrangements and coordinate responses to any emerging situation.
Reviewing logistical preparations, Shah emphasized the need for adequate facilities for pilgrims, including registration services, accommodation, healthcare infrastructure and disaster management mechanisms. He directed authorities to ensure that all essential services remain operational and accessible throughout the pilgrimage period.
The Home Minister further instructed that the movement of pilgrim convoys be regulated strictly in accordance with prevailing weather conditions and official forecasts to prevent any risk to devotees.
Recognising the growing number of pilgrims who also visit tourist destinations during the Yatra, Shah directed authorities to strengthen security arrangements not only along the traditional pilgrimage routes but also at major tourist locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, officials informed the Home Minister that local residents and service providers associated with the Yatra, as well as animals engaged in pilgrimage-related activities, would be registered and issued QR code-enabled identity cards to enhance verification and monitoring.
Authorities also briefed him on plans to organise special veterinary camps for the health examination and fitness assessment of animals deployed for carrying pilgrims and supplies along the Yatra routes.
The review meeting comes as security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir administration intensify preparations for one of the country's largest annual religious pilgrimages, which attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees from across India and abroad every year.
