Early Times Report

Jammu, June 14: A holiday trip turned into a tragedy for a group of young tourists from Haryana when three of them lost their lives and two others sustained critical injuries in a devastating road accident on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway near Nagrota on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred near IIM Jammu in the Jagti-Karli area when a Creta car bearing registration number HR29BB-2127 collided head-on with a bus (JK02AJ-9933) travelling from Jammu towards Udhampur.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap of metal, leaving passersby and local residents shocked. Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of locals, extricated the occupants from the wreckage before shifting them to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu.
Doctors at the hospital declared two of the occupants dead on arrival, while a third succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Sikandar Saifi, Shakti and Mohit Verma, all residents of Ballabhgarh in Haryana. Their deaths have cast a pall of gloom over their families and hometown.
Two others travelling in the vehicle, Deepak Verma (25), son of Manoj Verma, a resident of Ballabhgarh, Haryana, and Kuldeep Sharma, son of Inderpal Sharma of Bahudatta, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at GMC Jammu. Hospital authorities said both remain in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the group had recently visited Leh and various tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley and was on its way back to Haryana when the fatal accident occurred.
According to police a case has been registered and an investigation initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
“The bodies of all three youths were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations and completion of legal formalities,”police said. The family members reached Jammu after receiving information about the tragedy.
Police officials said they are examining all possible causes behind the accident, including overspeeding, negligence and road conditions.
