MeT predicts rain, thunderstorms till June 25

SRINAGAR, June 17: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday forecast generally cloudy weather with intermittent rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir over the next several days, while advising people to take necessary precautions
Director Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency JKNS, said that on June 17, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain, brief intense showers, thunder, lightning and gusty winds at many places, particularly during the afternoon hours.
He said that from June 18 to June 22, generally cloudy conditions are expected with one or two spells of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the forecast, weather conditions from June 23 to June 25 are likely to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at a few places.
Meanwhile, the MET Department has issued an advisory asking orchardists to carry out spray operations during the early morning or morning hours.
People have also been advised to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during adverse weather conditions. The department further advised suspension of boating activities and Shikara rides during thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The MET Department said there is a possibility of hailstorms at isolated places accompanied by brief intense showers during the next five days.
It also warned that intense showers may trigger flash floods and mudslides at isolated vulnerable locations.
