International Day of Yoga observed across NFR promoting healthy ageing and wellness

MALIGAON, June 22: International Day of Yoga (IDY)-2026 was celebrated across Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on 21st June 2026, reaffirming the importance of yoga as a powerful tool for promoting health, fitness and a balanced lifestyle. Yoga practice sessions were organised at the NFR Headquarters, all divisions, workshops and other railway establishments to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage its adoption as a way of life.
The theme for International Day of Yoga 2026, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" highlights the vital role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional resilience throughout life. It emphasizes yoga's ability to improve flexibility, strength and balance while encourAgeing a healthier, more active lifestyle. The theme also reflects a broader vision of healthy living, encourAgeing harmony between body, mind and nature and promoting comprehensive health and wellness. The celebration of IDY-2026 holds special significance as it marks the 12th anniversary of this global movement, inspiring millions worldwide to adopt yoga for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. Through its inclusive practices, yoga continues to promote preventive healthcare, improve quality of life and support healthy Ageing.
At the NFR Headquarters, the International Day of Yoga programme was organised at the Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, NFR, along with other senior railway officials, participated in the programme. Railway officers, staff and their family members enthusiastically performed various yoga asanas, demonstrating their commitment towards adopting healthy lifestyle practices. The International Day of Yoga was also celebrated by NFR (Construction) at the office of the General Manager (Construction) under the leadership of Shri Ashish Bansal, General Manager, NFR (Construction). Similar programmes were organised across all five divisions of NFR, witnessing enthusiastic participation from thousands of railway employees and their family members. The coordinated celebrations reflected NFR's continued emphasis on employee welfare, preventive healthcare and healthy living.
Observed on 21st June, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, International Day of Yoga symbolizes balance, wellness and mindful living. Celebrating Yoga Day on this date highlights the connection between physical health, mental well-being and nature, inspiring individuals to adopt healthier and more sustainable lifestyles.
To further promote the message of 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing,' NFR utilised various social media platforms to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga among the public. Through digital outreach, NFR encouraged people to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine for better health, active Ageing and a healthier lifestyle.
