Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 22: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President, Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, on Sunday said that far-flung areas of Jammu are witnessing unprecedented development and enhanced government outreach under the elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said the administration is ensuring that the benefits of welfare and development schemes are reaching even the remotest regions, reflecting a strong commitment towards inclusive growth and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. Gupta made these remarks while addressing a public meeting at Khoon in Majalta Tehsil of Udhampur district. The meeting was chaired by District President Ramporshotam and organized by Block President Mukesh Thapa. During his address, Gupta highlighted that the area is receiving renewed attention in terms of road widening and improved surface connectivity under flagship schemes such as the PMGSY. He said that the Majalta bridge project is nearing completion and was initiated under the Omar Abdullah-led government. He further informed that around four road projects in the region are also close to completion.
He added that the main demand of the people is double-laning of the main road leading to the ancient Jagannath Swami Temple of Thial, which will significantly boost local pilgrimage tourism. Gupta said this initiative is part of the government's broader vision to place Majalta on the tourism map and integrate it with the wider Mansar tourism circuit.
He also emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure better access to basic civic amenities in Majalta Belt, with a focus on road connectivity, education, healthcare, and tourism development.
Accusing the BJP of failing to deliver on employment generation over the past decade, Gupta said the region, like many others, witnessed a lack of job opportunities, pushing local youth towards social challenges, including drug abuse. He said the present government is actively working to address youth concerns through employment-oriented schemes and skill development initiatives.
He further stated that sports infrastructure is also being strengthened to channelize youth energy in positive and productive directions.
Gupta also informed that the Deputy Chief Minister is scheduled to visit the area on Wednesday 24th of this month to review ongoing developmental works and address a public meeting at 11:00 Am in Majalta.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu directed all functionaries of the party to gear up party cadre for the forthcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections.
Among others who were present included: Vijay Lochan Chairman SC Cell, Rakesh Singh Raka Vice President Central Zone, Shanker Singh Block President, Om Parkash and others party functionaries were also present in the meeting.
