Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29: Several Residents Welfare Associations of Jammu have appealed to Omar Govt to extend the date for filing objections & comments on the draft J&K Uniform Lease Policy, 2026, and the Draft J& K Rental And Licence Policy, 2026, as residents only learned about the proposed large-scale changes to the existing policy, only on 25th June when the notification was published in the local newspapers as an advertisement. In a joint statement issued here today, the Presidents of these Associations expressed surprise that the notification issued on 6th June by the Department of Housing & Urban Development was published in the newspapers 12 days after the important draft policy was issued, and residents were given only 15 days from publication in the Official Gazette to file objections. Describing this as unfair, the Associations noted that interestingly, nobody knows the date the draft policies were published in the Official Gazette; hence, residents are stunned about which date objections must actually be filed by. The Govt should not implement massive changes to the existing Housing policies without giving residents ample time to comprehend the government's actions. The Govt should not effect massive changes in the existing Housing policies without giving residents ample time to comprehend what the Govt is doing. These Associations have urged the Commissioner Secretary H& UDD to grant at least one month's time, with a specific date so that the residents and the Associations can read these voluminous documents, interact with stakeholders and experts, and formulate a considered response to the proposed colossal changes. The Associations have also appealed to the MLAs to intervene and prevail upon the Govt to, at least, give ample time for residents' response and prevent huge inconvenience to residents of the colonies. The signatories to the joint statement include Er Chandra Uday President, RWA, Gandhinagar, Shri Rajinder Kakkar, President, Trikuta Residents Welfare Association and V K Magotra of Channi Himmat Housing Welfare Association.
