7/1/2026 10:14:46 PM
Early Times Report
SAMBA, July 1: With an aim to promote cyber security awareness and strengthen digital safety among citizens, Samba Police today organized a series of Cyber Awareness Programmes under the observance of Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas across various parts of the district. The programmes were aimed at educating citizens about emerging cyber threats, safe digital practices and preventive measures required for secure usage of the internet and social media platforms.
The Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas was organized by Samba Police at multiple institutions and establishments across the district including Main Market Supwal (Samba), Mansar Lake Park, Village Sumb, PP Rakh AmbTalli, PS Purmandal, PS Vijaypur, Tapyal (Ghagwal), Main Bazar Samba and Shivalik Industries SIDCO Samba. A large number industrial workers/employees and general public participated in the awareness programmes.
During the interactive awareness sessions, police officers sensitized participants about various forms of cybercrime and the modus operandi adopted by cyber criminals to cheat innocent people. The participants were advised to remain alert and vigilant while doing any online activity and were cautioned against sharing personal credentials, bank account details, ATM PINs, passwords, debit/credit card information, or OTPs with any unknown person through phone calls, text messages, emails or social media platforms.
Emphasis was also laid on the importance of maintaining proper cyber hygiene for safe internet usage. The participants were encouraged to frequently change passwords of their social media accounts and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for enhanced security. They were further advised to add only known and trusted persons to their friend lists and avoid accepting friend requests from unknown individuals.
Wider publicity was also given regarding the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Helpline Number 1930 for prompt reporting of cyber frauds and financial cybercrimes. The participants were informed that timely reporting of cyber incidents significantly increases the possibility of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering defrauded money.
Samba Police appealed to citizens to remain cautious while using digital platforms, adopt safe online practices and promptly report cybercrimes to take swift and effective action against cyber offenders.
