Remembering timeless legacy of Amar Nath Vaishnavi
LEGEND OF KASHMIRI PANDITS
7/1/2026 10:48:12 PM
Dr. Daleep Pandita

Genuinely it is difficult to adequately describe a legendary and stalwart personality who had unwavering resilience with high statesmanship qualities having visionary humanitarian approach carrying rare instincts of wisdom and high moral courage to his credit for selflessly serving the cause of humanity.
Leader par excellence due to tireless efforts having inbuilt helping attitude full of honesty and sincerely dedicated towards upliftment of society, Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi Jee needs no introduction particularly to Kashmiri Pandit Community that too during their post migration era in early1990 from their homeland.
Son of the soil born on 24 August,1925 at Mastgarh, Jammu, respectfully referred as Lala Jee was staunch believer of Sanatan with profound nationalist feelings, was sentimentally attached with selfless service to humanity from his childhood. Overwhelmed with leadership qualities, his adulthood latter shaped in to a well accepted social reformer due to his moderation and humility traits dedicated to the welfare of society. A teacher by profession, he was a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ( RSS ) ideologue having deep affection for patriotism who latter rose to become its incharge for Kashmir and Ladakh region and indulged in nationalistic activities even before partition of India.
On the demand of circumstances, he founded Kashmir Sahayata Samiti in late 1990 to rehabilitate displaced Kashmiri Hindus uprooted from the Valley and thereafter headed All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) and Shree Sanatan Dharam Yuvak Sabha (SSDYS) who also worked in the same direction for the settlement of Kashmiri migrants outside their homeland.
Late Vaishnavi Jee was not only a saint but a towering personality and one of the most illustrious leaders produced by Kashmiri Hindu community who remained symbol of dignity and integrity throughout his public life with total commitment to justice and communal harmony due to which he commanded immense respect not only among Kashmiri Hindus but across all sections of the society.
During challenging times, he stood firm in safeguarding the interests, identity, socio cultural heritage and religious dignity of Kashmiri Pandit Community by virtue of his counsel inspired confidence and unshaken convictions for their safe and dignified rehabilitation all across the country. His enduring legacy shaped by his lifelong sacrifices and commitment towards his brethren by successfully negotiating with top leadership of the country including then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Balasahib Thackery to reserve educational seats for the wards of displaced Kashmiri Pandits. He bravely fought for the government provisions transforming temporary tenements in to one and two room apartments for needy migrants besides organizing make shift schools for children of internally displaced persons.
Really he was the savior of a shattered community, a man of conscience in exile, firm strength in silence, a friend , guide and philosopher who will always be remembered as Father of Community by generations to come. Majority of Kashmiri Pandit organisations including its ASKPC / SSDYS shall always remain indebted to his role, work and contribution for the upliftment of their community.
Though no longer with us when he left this materialistic world on 1st July, 2012, his invaluable ideas, noble values and exemplary legacy shall continue to inspire persons like author for all times to come. Great soul never dies because they served everyone at all times as a proud son of Bharat Mata and his memory shall forever remain etched in the hearts of Kashmiri Hindus with reverence, gratitude and affection.
