| From forgotten to famous: Reviving Jammu hidden gems beyond Kashmir | | | Keshav Mahajan
Jammu is widely known as the ‘City of Temples’ and one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations is Mata Vaishno Devi. However, many tourists are unaware of the hidden gems of Jammu and mainly focus on visiting Kashmir. There are many beautiful temples such as Mata Vaishno Devi Pindi andPandava Caves. However, apart from ancient temples there are scenic places to visit such as Bhaderwah, Poonch and Akhnoor. The Government should spend more resources to advertise such beautiful places. In Bhaderwah, there are stunning sceneries such as Jai Valley and Guldanda. In Akhnoor there are breathtaking places like Akhnoor Ghat and the Ambaran Buddhist site. In Poonch there are jaw-dropping places like Pir Ki Gali, Noori Chamb Waterfall and Loran Valley. To make these places more popular and accessible to tourists, the Government should provide better infrastructure(roads, toilets, rest stps(to make it more accessible to tourists. Additionally, they should promote such hidden places on social and digital platforms. They should also develop tourism models that encourage sustainable livelihoods while protecting local culture and heritage. they should provide proper road maps for tourists. Jammu has unexplored places with great potential. The Government should promote these places more, which will in turn increase tourism. Additionally, if the Government improves infrastructure, it will help make such places more popular. It is now time to put Jammu on an equal footing with Kashmir. |
