| Ayodhya Temple donation theft case: RSS says faith of millions stands betrayed | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: In a significant and unprecedented acknowledgment, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—the ideological fountainhead of the Sangh Parivar—on Friday admitted that the alleged theft of devotees' donations from the donation boxes at the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya had severely shaken the faith of millions of devotees and hurt the sentiments of the entire Hindu society. Breaking its silence amid the growing nationwide controversy, the RSS described the incident as not merely a case of theft but a direct assault on the faith and devotion of crores of Ram devotees. It demanded exemplary punishment for those found guilty, called for sweeping reforms in the temple's management and financial systems, and urged devotees to remain patient while the investigation is underway. In a strongly worded statement posted on social media, RSS Sarkaryavah (General Secretary) Dattatreya Hosabale said the grand Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple had become the foremost symbol of faith, reverence and national pride after decades of struggle, sacrifice and martyrdom by generations of devotees. "The unfortunate incident of theft from the donation boxes at the Shri Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya has deeply hurt the sentiments and faith of the entire society and Ram devotees. We are all deeply pained and angered by this incident," Hosabale said. He noted that, at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the Uttar Pradesh Government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and initiated legal proceedings based on its recommendations. The RSS leader asserted that anyone found guilty after the investigation must face the strictest punishment. He said the entire Hindu society, including the RSS, expected the Trust to treat the incident as an extraordinary breach of trust and immediately undertake comprehensive corrective measures to eliminate shortcomings in the temple's administration and operational management. Hosabale emphasised that restoring public confidence was paramount and said robust financial management, transparent administrative systems and flawless operational mechanisms were essential to ensure that the faith of crores of devotees remained unshaken. "The prevailing atmosphere of confusion and uncertainty must end. We expect both the temple management and the government-appointed SIT to take all necessary steps to restore confidence," he said. Expressing confidence in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Hosabale said that transparent financial practices, efficient management and an environment reflecting purity, sanctity and true dharmikta would further strengthen the trust and faith of Hindu society in the temple. At the same time, the RSS appealed to devotees across the country to maintain patience and restraint during the ongoing investigation. It also cautioned against what it termed attempts by "anti-Hindu and anti-national forces" to exploit the incident to defame Hindu Dharma and Hindu society. The RSS statement assumes significance as it comes amid mounting public outrage over the alleged theft of donations from one of the country's most revered temples, with demands growing for greater transparency, accountability and stronger institutional safeguards in the management of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. |
