Early Times Report KATHUA, July 4: Under the directions of the Director, Command Area Development, Jammu Sh. Pankaj Magotra (JKAS) a one-day farmers' training programme was organized under the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at village Chak Drab Khan, Block Nagri, District Kathua, today. The programme was conducted in view of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, with the objective of sensitizing farmers about the judicious use of chemical fertilizers and effective water management practices in agriculture. The training was attended by a large number of farmers from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities, along with women farmers, who participated enthusiastically and engaged actively in the discussions. The programme commenced with the plantation of Banyan and Amaltas trees adjoining the programme venue, in which farmers participated with full enthusiasm, reflecting their commitment towards environmental conservation alongside sustainable agricultural practices. During the programme, experts from the Department imparted detailed technical knowledge on balanced and judicious use of chemical fertilizers and scientific water management techniques to enhance soil health and improve crop productivity while conserving natural resources. The resource persons included Sh. Pankaj Verma, SMS-II Anil Sharma, SMS-II Sushil Kumar, SMS-II and Sh. Sat Pal Singh, SCA. The experts highlighted the ill effects of indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers on soil health, groundwater, and the environment, and urged farmers to adopt balanced fertilization practices along with efficient irrigation and water-saving methods. Farmers were also encouraged to adopt soil testing before fertilizer application and to make optimum use of available water resources to ensure sustainable agricultural practices. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, wherein farmers' queries related to fertilizer application and water management were addressed by the experts. |
