REASI, Aug 10: In view of the prevailing security scenario and forthcoming events, including Independence Day, Kousar Nag Yatra and Shri Budha Amarnath Yatra, a Subsidiary Multi-Agency Centre (SMAC) meeting was held at District Police Lines, Reasi, under the chairmanship of SSP Reasi Shri Mukund Tibrewal, IPS.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Police, Army, CRPF, CISF, SSB, JKAP, intelligence agencies and other security establishments, while SHOs of various police stations of District Reasi participated virtually.
The participating officers briefed the chair on the prevailing security situation and the preparedness measures being undertaken for the safe, secure and smooth conduct of Independence Day celebrations and the forthcoming pilgrimages. Detailed discussions were held on law and order management, counter-terrorism measures, surveillance of OGWs, monitoring of surrendered terrorists and missing youth, prevention of radicalization, intelligence gathering and intelligence-led operations.
SSP Reasi emphasized strengthening security arrangements at all locations where Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremonies are scheduled to be held. He directed security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance at pilgrimage routes, vulnerable locations and vital installations, particularly strategic infrastructure including Chenab Bridge, Anji Bridge and other railway installations.
Stress was laid on anti-sabotage checks, intensified area domination, deployment of snap nakas and enhanced surveillance at vulnerable locations. Security agencies were directed to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for Tiranga rallies and other Independence Day events, while maintaining close coordination among all stakeholders.
Reviewing the security arrangements for the forthcoming yatras, the SSP directed intensified area domination and route sanitisation, particularly along stretches adjoining forests, hill areas and other vulnerable terrain. He called for regular anti-sabotage checks, mock drills and thorough briefing of personnel deployed along the Yatra routes.
The SSP stressed upon effective utilisation of Village Defence Groups (VDGs) in remote and vulnerable villages, particularly in areas adjoining forests and difficult terrain. He directed that VDG members be actively engaged for local surveillance, early detection of suspicious movement and strengthening of the security grid, while ensuring their regular briefing, coordination with the local police and effective communication with concerned police establishments.
Emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts, SSP Reasi stressed effective inter-agency coordination and real-time intelligence sharing. He directed verification of the functionality of CCTV cameras and ownership details of cameras installed in the vicinity of security force establishments and called for greater use of surveillance technologies, including drones, along important Yatra routes and other vulnerable areas.
Reviewing Yatra-specific arrangements, he stressed strict adherence to laid-down SOPs, regular briefing and debriefing of deployed personnel, and effective public awareness regarding safety and security measures through prominent display of Do's and Don'ts at key locations along the Yatra routes.
He also directed SDRF and other concerned agencies to remain fully prepared to respond to any monsoon-related emergency, particularly in view of the challenging terrain and weather conditions prevailing along the pilgrimage routes. The SSP reiterated that there is no room for complacency and emphasized that proactive policing, sustained area domination, robust intelligence gathering, coordinated efforts and real-time information sharing are essential for maintaining peace and ensuring the safe and secure conduct of the forthcoming events and pilgrimages.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by all participating agencies to further strengthen inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing and security preparedness across District Reasi. |
