Jammu, Aug 17: Today on the 3rd Monday of auspicious month of Savan Sr. BJP leader Sh Indu Bhushan Sharma started a plantation drive of Belptra plants at Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar with fellow Morning walker association members.
During the month of Sawan, Belpatra* (leaves of the wood apple tree) is offered to Lord Shiva because it is extremely dear to Mahadev. Religious belief holds that its cooling
nature soothes Shiva’s fierce temperament and alleviates the burning sensation caused by his consumption of poison during the Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean); furthermore, offering it washes away all the sins of the devotees.
