Early Times Report
NEW DELHI, Aug 19: A Pakistani national was detained by the Delhi Police from Old Delhi for allegedly staying illegally in the national capital, police sources said.
According to the sources, the man had entered India through Nepal and was working at a restaurant in Delhi. He was detained on August 15 during an investigation into his alleged illegal stay in the country.
"The man's mother was originally from Delhi but had married a Pakistani national and subsequently acquired Pakistani citizenship," the source said.
The accused was questioned at length by the Delhi Police and central agencies to ascertain his background and activities, he added.
No terror angle has emerged during the questioning so far. After questioning, the man was handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), where the process for his deportation to Pakistan has been initiated, the source added.
The agencies are also verifying details related to his entry into India. (Agencies)
