Early Times Report
REASI, Aug 20: In a major crackdown against the growing misuse and illegal transportation of Pregabalin tablets, Reasi Police have recovered a total of 10,00 Pregabalin tablets (300 mg) and apprehended three accused persons in separate instances.
On 18.08.2026, during naka checking near Sports Stadium, Katra, a person moving towards Old Bus Stand, Katra, carrying a backpack was intercepted by the police team. During the search of his bag, 410 strips containing 10 tablets each, totalling 4,100 Pregabalin tablets of 300 mg, were recovered from his possession.
During enquiry, the accused disclosed his identity as Arjun Sharma S/o Hens Raj R/o Jib Thathi, Udhampur, presently working as a Tourist Guide (Panda) in Katra town. He failed to produce any valid permission or authorization for transportation of the said tablets, thereby violating the District Magistrate's order .
Accordingly, FIR No. 273/2026 under Section 223 BNS has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation has been initiated.
In another similar incidence, 6,800 Pregabalin tablets of 300 mg had also been recovered from two individuals, namely Sunny Kumar S/o Tara Chand R/o Dhanori, Katra and Ameet Khan S/o Wazir Mohd R/o Jankha Dhansal. In this regard requisite letters have already been furnished to the Drug Inspector, Reasi, for initiating legal proceedings as warranted under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Taking serious cognizance of emerging trends, SSP Reasi has issued strict directions to all police units to identify, prevent and take stringent legal action against persons involved in the illegal possession, transportation, distribution and misuse of Pregabalin in violation of the applicable orders and laws.
Reasi Police reiterate that no person will be permitted to exploit pharmaceutical drugs for illicit purposes or compromise the health and safety of the public. Continuous checking, surveillance and coordinated action with the concerned drug-control authorities will be intensified to curb the emerging menace of Pregabalin abuse.
