| Begampura vision of Guru Ravidass represents powerful, progressive social ideals: Balbir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 27: Balbir Ram Rattan, National General Secretary of the Indian branch of British Ravidasia Heritage Foundation, Member of Begampura Vishwa Mahasabha and social activist said that the vision of Begampura given by Guru Ravidass Ji represents a powerful, progressive and deeply humane social ideal that continues to inspire society even today. Balbir said that Begampura, described by Guru Ravidass Ji as a “city without sorrow”, reflects his dream of a society free from discrimination, injustice, exploitation, fear and social inequality. He said that the teachings of Guru Ravidass carried a strong message of social transformation and human dignity. He said that Guru Ravidass Ji envisioned a society where every individual could live with freedom, peace and self-respect, without being judged on the basis of caste, birth or social status. His message strongly opposed the practice of treating human beings as superior or inferior and emphasized equality and brotherhood. “Begampura is not merely the name of an imaginary city. It is a vision of an ideal society where there is no sorrow, no oppression and no discrimination, and where every person gets an opportunity to live with dignity and honour,” Balbir said. He said that Guru Ravidass Ji’s vision gives equal importance to social justice and economic well-being. A truly progressive society, he added, cannot be built when sections of people remain deprived, ignored or socially excluded. Development must therefore be inclusive and should improve the lives of all sections of society. Balbir further said that the concept of Begampura also promotes harmony, compassion and mutual respect. It teaches people to rise above narrow divisions and recognize the common dignity of every human being. Such values are essential for strengthening social unity and creating a peaceful and prosperous nation. He said that the relevance of Guru Ravidass Ji’s teachings has increased in the present era when societies across the world are working towards equality, inclusion and social justice. The ideals of Begampura can guide people in building a society where differences do not become a cause of discrimination but are respected as part of human diversity. Balbir called upon the younger generation to study and understand the teachings of Guru Ravidass and adopt the values of equality, compassion, hard work, dignity and social harmony in their daily lives. He said that the dream of Begampura can become meaningful only when society collectively works to remove discrimination, support the weaker sections and ensure equal respect and opportunities for every individual. Guru Ravidass Ji’s vision of Begampura also teaches us that the real measure of a progressive society is the dignity, happiness and security enjoyed by every human being, Balbir said. |
