| In 36 hours, security forces arrest 13 terror aides across Kashmir | | |

Jammu, Aug 27: Security forces have intensified their multi-pronged offensive against terrorism in Kashmir, foiling a major conspiracy in Kulgam district. Five suspected terrorist associates — overground workers (OGWs) — were arrested during an anti-terror operation, with arms and ammunition recovered from their possession. The arrests take the total number of suspected terror associates held in the Valley over the past 36 hours to 13.
According to officials, security agencies had received specific intelligence about the presence of suspicious elements in the Bugam Bagh area of Kulgam. Acting on the input, Kulgam Police, the Army's 9 Rashtriya Rifles, and the 18th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO). The area was sealed off, and all five suspects were apprehended during the intensive search that followed.
Those arrested have been identified as Furkhan Ahmad Wani (22), Sohaib Ahmad Palla (20) and Salman Abbas Lone (20) — all residents of Bugam — along with Nidash Ahmad Reshi (22) of Nanibugh and Faisal Akbar (30) of Redwani Payeen.
Security forces said the search led to the recovery of four foreign-made 9mm pistols, four magazines, 22 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades from the accused. The recovered weapons have been seized for further investigation.
Police have taken the accused into custody and begun interrogation. Security agencies are working to establish which terrorist outfit the suspects were linked to, and who supplied them with the recovered weapons. Investigators are also probing whether the arms were meant to be used in a planned attack. A case has been registered, and officials say further arrests could follow in the coming days based on the ongoing questioning and investigation. |
