| OBC delegation calls on LOP Sunil Sharma, seeks resolution of key issues | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 10: A delegation of various Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities and Representatives of Various Sabhas, led by BJP OBC Morcha J&K President Braham Jyot Satti, met Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma and raised a number of pressing issues concerning the OBC community, with the demand for OBC reservation in local bodies receiving particular emphasis.
During the meeting, the delegation urged the Leader of Opposition to take up the matter of OBC reservation in District Development Councils (DDCs), Block Development Councils (BDCs), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on priority and ensure that the requisite process is completed at the earliest.
The representatives stressed that OBC communities have been awaiting an effective and comprehensive mechanism for reservation and representation in local governance institutions.
Another important issue raised during the meeting was the use of the word "Rural" in provisions pertaining to certain OBC communities, particularly the Kumhar, Nai, Teli and Dhobi communities. The delegation pointed out that the wording of the existing provisions is creating difficulties and sought appropriate clarification and corrective action to ensure that eligible members of these communities are not deprived of their legitimate rights and benefits.
The delegation also highlighted the difficulties being faced by members of the OBC community in obtaining the requisite OBC certificates, particularly because of problems related to the submission and availability of land and other documentary records. The representatives apprised the Leader of Opposition of the practical difficulties faced by applicants and urged that a simple, transparent and accessible mechanism be put in place so that genuine beneficiaries are not denied certificates due to procedural or documentation-related hurdles.
Speaking on the occasion, Braham Jyot Satti urged Sunil Sharma to raise these issues forcefully in the Legislative Assembly and put pressure on the present National Conference-led government to initiate concrete action for their early resolution. |
