NEW DELHI, Sept 10: Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on Thursday called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Murmu appreciated the projects implemented by the Aga Khan Development Network in India in areas such as water and sanitation, education, maternal health, urban redevelopment, women's empowerment, and employment generation, her office said in a statement.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V is visiting India from September 9 to 15 following an invitation from Vice President C P Radhakrishnan.
This is his first visit to India since his accession as the 50th Imam (religious leader) of the Ismaili community.
Welcoming him, the President offered her condolences on the passing of his father, late Aga Khan IV.
"In India, we regard Aga Khan IV and the work undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) with great respect and affection," she said, according to the statement.
President Murmu said these projects are excellent examples of public-private partnerships and demonstrate how non-profit organisations, working in partnership with the government, can improve people's quality of life.
Earlier in the day, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V met Vice President Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. |
