| Om Birla urges youth to draw inspiration from Gandhi, Shastri | | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Oct 2: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday urged youth to draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, particularly their ideals, public service and commitment to the nation. Gandhi's life demonstrated the power of truth, morality, non-violence and Satyagraha, Birla said. The Lok Sabha speaker was addressing students from across the country who are participating in the 'Know Your Leader' programme. In his address at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the old Parliament building, Birla said Gandhi's philosophy showed that movements based on truth and non-violence could bring lasting change. He urged the youth to study Gandhi's life and philosophy, saying it could provide insight, courage and a new perspective to face adversity and challenges. Birla said self-reflection, discipline, perseverance and firmness of purpose, which were integral to Gandhi's life, remain relevant for today's youth. Recalling Shastri, he highlighted his simplicity, honesty, high ideals, sense of duty and firmness in decision-making. He referred to Shastri's "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" call as giving direction to the country during a challenging period and highlighting national and food security. The speaker said technology, knowledge and resources alone cannot ensure success; patience, ethical conduct, discipline, determination and continuity of effort are equally important. He asked youth not to allow disappointment, fatigue or setbacks to weaken their resolve. He stressed that social responsibility should remain at the heart of the youth's journey, with the objective being not merely personal achievement but also contributing to the country's development. He called upon young people to use their knowledge, energy and capabilities to help build and lead a new and developed India. Birla urged the students to carry the message and inspiration of the programme to their schools and communities and leave the historic Central Hall with renewed energy, confidence and commitment to nation-building. |
