Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 4: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) organised an Awareness Rally, Poster Competition and Cleanliness Drive at Shailputri Bhawan Girls Hostel as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 6.0 Campaign, under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu.
The activities were aimed at creating greater awareness among hostel residents about cleanliness, personal hygiene, responsible waste management and environmental responsibility. The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from girl students of various departments, who actively contributed to the cleanliness and awareness initiatives.
The Poster Competition, organised on October 2, provided students an opportunity to creatively communicate messages related to cleanliness, proper waste disposal, hygiene and environmental protection. The posters prepared by the students highlighted the theme “Clean Hostel, Healthy Hostel” and reflected their commitment towards maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
The Awareness Rally, organised on October 4, further reinforced the message of cleanliness and responsible citizenship. Students carried awareness posters and participated enthusiastically in the rally, spreading messages on maintaining cleanliness, adopting proper waste disposal practices and protecting the environment. The rally also emphasised that cleanliness is a collective responsibility requiring sustained participation from all members of the University community.
A cleanliness drive was also organised at the hostel premises, during which residents were encouraged to maintain cleanliness in their rooms and common areas and ensure responsible disposal of waste. The activity sought to motivate students to make cleanliness and hygiene a regular part of their daily lives rather than limiting them to campaign-based activities.
The programmes were conducted with the support of Dr. Shweta Yadav, Convener; Dr. Misbah Shafi, Co-convener; and Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Coordinator. Their guidance and support contributed to the smooth conduct of the activities and encouraged active participation of the hostel residents.
Prof. Richa Kothari, Nodal Officer and Co-coordinator, guided the activities and highlighted the importance of translating awareness into sustained cleanliness practices. She emphasised that a clean and healthy environment can be achieved only through individual responsibility, collective action and consistent efforts.
Dr. Misbah Shafi appealed to the students and other stakeholders to take the Swachhta Pledge and contribute collectively towards maintaining cleanliness in the hostel premises. She encouraged students to adopt responsible practices concerning waste management and hygiene in their everyday lives.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and emphasised that cleanliness and hygiene should become an integral part of everyday life. He called upon students to act as ambassadors of cleanliness and responsible environmental practices.
