Jammu, Oct 4: The Special Crime Wing (SCW), Crime Branch Jammu, has filed a charge-sheet against a consultant in connection with an alleged visa fraud case involving several persons who were allegedly duped on the promise of arranging work visas for Canada. In a statement a CB spokesman said, “The charge-sheet was filed against Lalit Sharma, son of Surinder Sharma, resident of Nai Basti Rangpur, R.S. Pura, Jammu, proprietor of M/s Kalika Education Consultant and M/s Knight Rider Consultant. The charge-sheet was presented before the Special Municipal Court, Jammu, in FIR No. 02/2025 registered at Police Station SCW Jammu under Section 420 of the IPC.” “According to the case, complaints were received alleging that the accused had collected money from several individuals after assuring them of arranging work visas for foreign countries, particularly Canada. However, the promised visas were allegedly not provided, nor were the amounts refunded,” he added. “During the course of investigation, the Crime Branch recorded statements of complainants and witnesses and examined bank records and other documentary evidence. The investigation established that a total amount of ₹37.94 lakh had allegedly been received from the complainants/victims through bank transactions and cash payments,” the spokesman said. “Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the offence under Section 420 IPC was found established against the accused, following which the charge-sheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination,” he said. The Crime Branch advised the public to exercise utmost caution while dealing with visa and immigration consultants. “People should verify the credentials and registration of agencies, insist on proper agreements and receipts, avoid making payments without verification and independently verify visa and employment offers through official channels,” the spokesman said. |
