Rumi says, “As you live deeper in the heart, the mirror gets cleaner and cleaner”. What does the heartfelt, loving Rumi, ‘the man of love’, try to tell us through his sayings? Which mirror is he talking about? There is a glass mirror outside in which we can see our face; the face, which looks beautiful today, will one day die and turn ugly. Because as we grow older, we become more impure within. But Rumi says, as you live deeper in the heart, the mirror gets cleaner and cleaner. ‘Deeper in the heart’ means going inward and not looking toward the outside world. As you live deeper in the heart, it is nothing but love. When you love God and go deeper in love with God, the mirror automatically gets cleaned, meaning you get your original face because you move away from the outside world. As you move away from the outside world, the inner world of God will start activating automatically. This is what one has to understand - he focuses on the heart because it symbolises love, and Rumi spoke only about love throughout his life. Love makes our journey deeper. Going deeper within means cleansing the heart. Love is the only way to get rid of all the black spots from the heart because, unless the black spots vanish, you will not be able to see inward. Therefore, to look within, you must cleanse your heart, which is only possible by the sayings of true masters who had a ‘clean heart’. Those who have witnessed the original face by gazing into the mirror of God began their journey toward God Home by treating the physical body as secondary. Let us follow these divine teachings to purify our hearts. Everything is happening according to the wheel of time. So, let the wheel of time move on, and everything will go smoothly; when you are not disturbed, life will automatically be blissful.
Attain that blissful state of mind where you see your true face, not seen for many births. Only that face will make your life wonderful. The life that you have lived until now is not true life. This is unreal. Now start living the real life; which means sitting with God and accepting everything that happens in a relaxed and happy manner. Only then will life move forward to the next destination, the God Home.
Rumi’s saying that ‘as you live deeper in the heart, the mirror gets cleaner and cleaner’. The deeper you go into the heart, the deeper the love, in other words - ‘I know only you, I don’t know any other’. The one living inside is God alone, and living with God will make you happy.
Understand and know, that life is not what we think it is. Hence, to clean your heart means to love. Going deep within means love, and the sayings of Rumi will come true; you will come to know that inside there is One who is God, and ‘I’ am not. Knowing that state where ‘I’ am not is the Godly state of mind. Your ‘I’ will be replaced by ‘You’, and as you surrender to God in full acceptance, expressing the deepest love for God until nothing remains in the mind but Him. That is the state where God is happy as you return home, marking the success of your human birth.
