| 150 Bangladeshi nationals deported from J&K, another batch likely on Oct 7 | | | Atul Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 5: In a decisive escalation of its crackdown on foreign nationals living in Jammu and Kashmir without legal sanction, the administration on Monday deported 150 Bangladeshi nationals from the Union Territory, flying them out on a special Indian Air Force aircraft. The deportees were taken to Bagdogra in West Bengal, where they will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the next stage of the process, officials said. According to officials, all 150 were allegedly staying in Jammu and Kashmir without valid permission. The deportation process was set in motion only after authorities had verified their identities and examined their documents. The operation does not appear to be a one-off. Sources indicated that another group of Bangladeshi nationals could be deported on October 7, signalling that the drive to identify and send back illegally resident foreigners will continue in the coming days. Key details, however, are still missing. Officials have not yet disclosed how the 150 individuals were identified, which parts of Jammu and Kashmir they were living in, or how long they had been staying in the region. Those questions remain unanswered for now. Monday's action has once again put the spotlight on the monitoring of illegal foreign residents and the wider security arrangements in the Union Territory. |
