| PCPG meeting held at GHSS, Bafliaz | | | Early Times Report BAFLIAZ, Oct 9: A Police-Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meeting was held at Bafliaz under the chairmanship of Additional SP Poonch, Dr. Ajay Sharma (JKPS), in the presence of DySP DAR/I/C DySP Surankote Shashi Kant, SHO Surankote, CRPF/SOG personnel, police officials, public representatives, social activists, ex-servicemen, religious representatives and local residents. The meeting focused on strengthening police-public coordination and addressing issues relating to drugs, counter-terrorism, women and child safety, cybercrime and other public concerns. Addressing the gathering, Additional SP Poonch Dr. Ajay Sharma appreciated the active participation of the public and stressed that timely and credible information from citizens is vital for maintaining peace and security. On the drug menace, he emphasised the need to identify and apprehend the main suppliers and peddlers, while simultaneously promoting de-addiction, rehabilitation and counselling for those willing to reform. On counter-terrorism, the Additional SP cautioned that anti-national elements may exploit drugs, weapons, terrorism, religion and other sentiments to mislead the youth. He urged citizens to immediately report suspicious persons, movements, visits or terrorist activities and categorically appealed against providing shelter, support or assistance to terrorists. He also acknowledged the important role played by local residents in previous counter-terrorism operations, including Operation Sarpvinash. He further stressed the need for enhanced vigilance and effective input gathering and timely sharing of information, particularly in view of the security challenges associated with hilly and difficult terrain. He urged the public to report illegal mining, unauthorised tree felling, encroachment and illegal forest or mountain land clearance. Expressing serious concern over bovine smuggling, he directed the concerned officers to adopt a zero-tolerance approach and ensure strict legal action against violators. Regarding local disputes, he advised residents to avoid unnecessary escalation through FIRs and counter-FIRs and to resolve minor issues peacefully wherever possible. On women's safety and empowerment, Dr. Ajay Sharma informed the gathering that Women Help Desks are available at every Police Station and encouraged women to approach the police without hesitation. He requested Ex-Sarpanch Ms. Tahira Tabassum to facilitate visits of women to Police Station Surankote to familiarise them with police functioning and build their confidence in seeking police assistance. He stressed the importance of greater participation of women in community-police initiatives and encouraged them to come forward, assist the police and confidently raise their concerns. On cyber safety, he cautioned the public against sharing OTPs, email credentials, passwords or other sensitive information with unknown persons and stressed the importance of immediately reporting cyber fraud, blackmail and unauthorised circulation of private videos or recordings. He also urged parents and community leaders to guide the youth away from drugs, terrorist propaganda and the harmful use of mobile phones and towards constructive and positive activities. |
