Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: In observance of Cyber Security Awareness Month and as part of the three-month campaign under Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, the Department of Computer Applications, in collaboration with the College Cyber Club, organised a Cyber Security Awareness-cum-Hygiene Programme. The initiative aimed to promote digital safety, encourage responsible online behaviour, and raise awareness about the prevention of cybercrime among the college community.
The programme was conducted through multiple sessions for the teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and students, reaching approximately 1,600 participants. The initiative aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical measures to protect themselves against the growing threats of cybercrime in the digital era.
The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including awareness of various cybercriminal activities, common online frauds, phishing attacks, identity theft, safe internet browsing, password security, and the importance of maintaining proper cyber hygiene. Special emphasis was laid on adopting safe digital practices, protecting personal and confidential information, and exercising caution while using online platforms and digital services.
The participants were also sensitized about important cybercrime helpline numbers and online cybercrime reporting portals, enabling them to understand the appropriate procedures for reporting cyber incidents and seeking timely assistance. The programme highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant in the digital environment and taking prompt action in case of suspicious online activities or cyber fraud.
The awareness sessions were conducted by the faculty members of the Department of Computer Applications, namely Dr. Preeti Dubey, Head, Department of Computer Applications; Rachna Bharti, Assistant Professor; Shabilka, Lecturer; and Diksha Sharma, Lecturer. Through their informative lectures and practical guidance, the faculty members encouraged participants to develop a proactive approach towards cybersecurity and to incorporate cyber hygiene practices into their daily lives.
